Back to the boards: Daniel Wang: Why Affiliates Stay Broke After Their Best Month

Glossary

Index cards for the jargon. Each one links to the moment it came up.

MRR

Monthly recurring revenue: recurring subscription revenue expressed on a monthly basis. It is not profit or a guarantee that customers renew.

share

Fixed costs

Costs that do not move directly with each incremental sale within a given operating range. They remain payable during weak demand.

share

Working capital / float

The cash needed to fund operations while waiting for receipts. Daniel’s example is paying for traffic before receiving affiliate payouts.

share

Vertical

A market or offer category, such as the Medicare or ecommerce examples in the conversation. Different verticals can still share platform exposure.

share

Maintenance activities

Daniel’s term for work that keeps the existing operation functioning, such as invoicing, organization, and client support.

share

Money-making activities

Daniel’s term for work aimed at generating revenue, including networking and developing opportunities. It depends on adequate operating support.

share

Survivorship bias

Learning only from the businesses that survived can hide the experience of those that failed. Daniel explicitly acknowledges this in his pivot story.

share

CRM

Customer relationship management system. Daniel discusses moving from general tools to software built around his company’s workflows.

share

Decision tokens

Daniel’s metaphor for limited attention and decision capacity, not a measured quota or scientific metric.

share

Opportunity cost

The value of what cannot be done when time or resources are committed elsewhere; here, owner attention spent on small savings.

share

Nutra

Industry shorthand for supplement and related health-product offers. The episode discusses Daniel’s historical affiliate experience in that category.
